What It Is

Methyl Boost + is a B-vitamin formula supplying folate in two forms, B12 as methylcobalamin, and active phosphorylated forms of B2 and B6, alongside TRAACS® chelated magnesium and zinc and a 1595 mg blend containing betaine and New Zealand glandular ingredients.

Key Benefits

  • Supplies folate at 2040 mcg DFE, split evenly between folinic acid and L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate
  • Provides vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin, a methylated form
  • Supplies vitamin B6 as pyridoxal 5′-phosphate at 100 mg, the active phosphorylated form
  • Provides vitamin B2 as riboflavin 5′-phosphate, also in its active form
  • Supplies magnesium and zinc as Albion® TRAACS® bisglycinate chelates
  • Includes betaine anhydrous, also known as trimethylglycine, a methyl donor used in normal methylation pathways

How It Works

Folate is supplied in two forms rather than one, split evenly between folinic acid and L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. Both are reduced folates, distinct from folic acid, and the label states the split.

Vitamin B12 is supplied as methylcobalamin. B12 appears in supplements in several forms — cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, and hydroxocobalamin among them — and this formula specifies the methylated form.

B2 and B6 are provided as riboflavin 5′-phosphate and pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, the phosphorylated forms the body uses directly as cofactors. B6 is supplied at 100 mg per serving.

Magnesium and zinc are supplied as Albion® TRAACS® bisglycinate chelates, minerals bound to the amino acid glycine rather than delivered as simple salts.

The glandular ingredients are identified by source on the label: stomach tissue as bovine from New Zealand, and duodenal substance as New Zealand and lyophilized, meaning freeze-dried.

Sourcing & Quality

Magnesium and zinc are supplied as patented Albion® TRAACS® amino acid chelates. Folate is provided as two reduced forms with the ratio stated, and B2 and B6 are supplied in their active phosphorylated forms. The glandular ingredients name their origin: bovine stomach tissue from New Zealand, and lyophilized duodenal substance also from New Zealand. Pancreatin is specified as 8X USP. The capsule shell is hypromellose and the formula is gluten-free.

This formula is not vegetarian. It contains bovine stomach tissue, duodenal substance, pancreatin, and intrinsic factor. The vegetarian capsule shell describes the shell only, not the contents.

Warnings

  • Contains animal-derived glandular ingredients, including bovine tissue. Not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.

  • Store in a cool, dry place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this formula vegetarian?

No. The capsule shell is hypromellose, which is plant-derived, but the formula contains bovine stomach tissue, duodenal substance, pancreatin, and intrinsic factor. A vegetarian capsule shell describes the shell only, not what is inside it. The formula is gluten-free.

What is in Methyl Boost +?

Each 3-capsule serving supplies 20 mg each of vitamins B1 and B2, 100 mg of B6 as pyridoxal 5′-phosphate, 2040 mcg DFE of folate, 1000 mcg of B12 as methylcobalamin, 400 mcg of biotin, 30 mg of magnesium and 15 mg of zinc as TRAACS chelates, a 1595 mg proprietary blend, and 50 mcg of lithium as orotate. The blend contains betaine anhydrous, bovine stomach tissue from New Zealand, lyophilized duodenal substance, pancreatin 8X USP, and intrinsic factor. The full panel is listed in the Supplement Facts above.

What form does it come in, and how many servings are in a bottle?

Methyl Boost + is supplied in capsules with a hypromellose shell. A bottle contains 90 capsules and the serving size is 3 capsules, which works out to 30 servings per bottle.

How does the composition differ from MTHFR & BHMT Assist?

The two formulas share vitamins B1, B2, biotin, TRAACS chelated magnesium and zinc, betaine anhydrous, glandular ingredients, and lithium orotate, but differ in several places. Methyl Boost + supplies B12 as methylcobalamin, B6 at 100 mg, folate at 2040 mcg DFE split evenly between folinic acid and L-5-MTHF, and a 1595 mg blend, in a 3-capsule serving. MTHFR & BHMT Assist supplies B12 as hydroxocobalamin, B6 at 10 mg, folate at 4250 mcg DFE split 25% folinic acid and 75% L-5-MTHF, adds 75 mg of niacin, and has a 1020 mg blend, in a 2-capsule serving.

What form of B12 does this contain?

Methylcobalamin, at 1000 mcg per serving. Vitamin B12 appears in supplements as several forms — cyanocobalamin, methylcobalamin, adenosylcobalamin, and hydroxocobalamin. Methylcobalamin is a methylated form. The label specifies which is used.

Why is the folate listed in two forms?

The label states the folate is 50% folinic acid and 50% L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. Both are reduced folates, distinct from folic acid. Supplying two forms rather than one is a formulation choice, and stating the ratio on the panel is more detail than most labels give.

Where do the glandular ingredients come from?

The label specifies bovine stomach tissue from New Zealand, and duodenal substance from New Zealand that is lyophilized, meaning freeze-dried rather than heat-processed. Pancreatin is specified as 8X USP, a potency standard. The label does not state the source species for pancreatin or intrinsic factor.
